July is graduation month and it’s been very exciting here at IE! Would you like to know what happened?
On 20th July our Master students from the five IE Schools gathered to receive their diplomas. In the course of the ceremony, the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Saad Hariri, was awarded the IE University Medal in recognition of his commitment to promoting economic development and consolidating the democratic system in Lebanon. The keynote address was delivered by Gillian Tans, CEO of Booking.com. “Whatever you do after today, bring a global perspective to your work and to your life. Think globally” said Tans, who has held the position of CEO of Booking.com since April 2016.
During the ceremony, Julia Sánchez, Head of Global Alumni Relations, gave a very inspirational speech. “These diplomas that you are holding proudly in your hand will be your compass that will take you forward and help you face the countless possibilities that you have ahead.”
Congratulations to all the new graduates and welcome to the IE Alumni family! You can have a look at the photos of the ceremony here.
IE Venture Day Madrid
IE Venture Day Madrid is IE’s largest entrepreneurship event, the culmination of its Venture Lab program and a celebration of IE’s entrepreneurial spirit and mission to foster an entrepreneurial mindset. It took place on July 12th at the Rafael del Pino Auditorium.
The keynote speaker was Ikhlaq Sidhu, Chief Scientist and Founding Director of the Sutarja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology at UC Berkeley. He gave an enriching speech about how machine learning is being applied in business.
Throughout the afternoon we heard elevator pitches of the promising proposals of the runner up teams and then moved on to the Final Startup Competition with our 11 finalists! Congratulations to Hangry, the winner startup which presents a new opportunity that connects brands with VTC passengers. They received the award during the #IEGraduation ceremony.

LGTB @ Work
Since 2006, the IEOut & Allies Club has proudly presented the LGBT@Work conference, the longest running LGBT+ work conference in Europe. Its goal is to promote the free exchange of ideas and provide a unique networking platform for LGBT+ students and professionals creating a diverse, international and welcoming learning experience. You can have a look at all the photos here.
The IE Out & Allies Club endeavors to make this real by raising awareness and engaging in conversations that aim to broaden understanding and support for LGBTQI* populations worldwide. Our student-led LGBTQI* organization organizes events year-round that are open to all members of the IE Community, and range from the scholarly and educational to networking and cocktail events to celebrate a break from school.
Those are some of the main highlights of our month of July. What have you been up to? We’d love to know! Share it with us in the comments below.
